It was bound to happen, what with daddy and brother sick. The cough started Tuesday afternoon and by Wednesday we knew Willa Bear was not 100%. The fever was around 99.5 the first time we took it and quickly jumped to 100.4. We talked to Dr. W and she said we should take Willa to GBMC's ER to be checked for an infection. Daddy stayed home with Milo and mommy and Willa headed to GBMC. We checked in around 8 PM. And we waited. The triage nurse took Willa's temperature and it was up to 101. (Also, we learned you were around 9 1/2 pounds.) And we waited and waited. Around 10 we got a room back in the pediatric ER. A nurse came in and suctioned out a ton of gunk from Willa's nose and they sent it out to be tested for the flu (which is what mommy thought Willa had since Milo was diagnosed with the flu the previous Sunday.) The doc came in and said they wanted to do some more tests to check for an infection—so two nurses came in and did a catheter to get some urine (Willa was not a big fan of that) and took some blood (not a big fan either.) But she really was such a good sport. That was around 11. The results took about an hour. No flu or other infections—thank goodness—but Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)—an icky virus. Which you can do nothing for. We finally got home at 1 AM.
Since, we've been to the doctor twice and so far Willa's lungs are clear and she is hydrated. Her cough and congestion are still pretty terrible and we do lots of suctioning, which none of us like. The worse days of RSV are days three-five, so now that we are at the end of day five, hopefully we'll start to see a big improvement.
